Corns & Callus explained by Dawn French, Align’s resident Foot Health Practitioner!

Corns and callus are common foot conditions and develop when the skin of the foot is exposed to too much pressure or friction. Both corns and callus are areas of hard, thickened skin which when left untreated, they can cause discomfort when walking.

*Corns are small circles of thick skin that can occur almost anywhere on the foot. They are caused either by pressure from shoes or as a symptomof another foot problem. They frequently occur on people with bony feet.

*Callus is a larger area of hard skin usually appearing around the heel area or under the ball of the foot. Athletes and walkers are particularly susceptible to callus.

Neither of these conditions will resolve unless their cause is removed. A foot health professional can identify the cause, provide treatment and advise on self-care to prevent further problems.
